Sylvie Buhagiar
Biography
Sylvie Buhagiar began her career in 1988 at Coudert Brothers Law Firm, based in New York. In 1989, she joined the Brunschwig Wittmer law firm in Geneva, then the Oberson law firm in 1993. Throughout her career, she has specialised in banking, commercial, and corporate law. With a wealth of experience, she founded Etude Sylvie Buhagiar in 2002. She holds administrative positions in various public and private entities, with a notable commitment to sectors such as hospitality and gastronomy, culture and disability. Among her mandates, she has served on institutions such as Foyer Handicap, Pro Infirmis Geneva, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Photo Elysée Museum Foundation. She also chairs several boards, including the Béjart Ballet Lausanne Foundation Board and the Joint Ethics Board of the Aigues-Vertes, Clair Bois and Foyer Handicap Foundations. She also sits on the Ethics and Professional Conduct Council shared by the University of Geneva and the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland, as well as on the Council of the Swiss Authors' Society. In 2025, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of REYL & Cie Ltd.
Education
Sylvie Buhagiar graduated in Law from the University of Geneva, where she obtained her Bachelor's degree (‘86). She then continued her education with a Master of Laws (LL.M) at Columbia University in New York (‘88) before being admitted to the Geneva Bar (‘90).
She also holds a degree from the School of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Geneva (‘86).
